Gullen Solar Farm and Gullen Range Wind Farm were excited to recently host forty Year 8 students from Crookwell High School. The students were given a mini tour of both the solar farm and wind farm. They had an opportunity to get up close to a solar panel array, see inside a wind turbine and learn about solar and wind energy. With the sun shining and the wind blowing, it was a perfect day to explain to the students how co-located solar and wind plants can work very well together. The photo below shows Tim, the Gullen Solar Farm Project Manager, explaining how a solar panel works.

Gullen Solar Farm is the first co-located wind and solar project in Australia. Scientific American recently ran a story about Gullen Solar Farm and the benefit that co-location offers. You can read the article here:

The big news for the solar farm is that it has been purchased by New Gullen Range Wind Farm Pty. Ltd. (NGRWF). In simple terms, this means that the solar farm and the wind farm are now controlled by the same group of people. It means less of Tom Frood from Goldwind and more of Derek Powell, Steph Frogatt and Isabel Nelson from NGRWF.

The solar farm was developed by Goldwind and they were the 100% owners of Gullen Solar Pty. Ltd. In mid-September, NGRWF purchased 100% of Gullen Solar Pty. Ltd. NGRWF is 75% owned by Beijing Jingneng Clean Energy Co., Ltd. (BJCE) and 25% by Goldwind (Capital) Australia Pty. Ltd., so Goldwind maintains a 25% stake in the project. Goldwind and BJCE continue to work closely together on both the wind and solar farms.

Gullen Solar Pty. Ltd. and NGRWF have commenced upgrade works on Bannister Hall and Storriers Lanes. The cost of these works is approximately $700,000. Gullen Solar has worked with Upper Lachlan Shire Council to agree a specification for the upgrade that will ensure a low maintenance road will be available for the community in years to come. We are very happy to be providing these works. Goulburn based contractor, Divalls heavy Haulage, will be undertaking these works. Apologies for any inconvenience, but I’m sure you agree it’ll be great to do without these potholes.

Looking forward from the roadworks, Gullen Solar has appointed Decmil Australia Pty. Ltd. (Decmil) and Balance Utility Solutions Pty. Ltd. (Balance) to construct the solar farm. Decmil and Balance are Perth based companies which will be using local subcontractors for the construction works. Works are due to start at the end of November, pending approval of various preconstruction requirements with Upper Lachlan Shire Council. Decmil and Balance are working to prepare these preconstruction documents at present.

The Gullen Solar project is supported by funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.

Goldwind Australia Pty Ltd and Gullen Solar Farm Pty Ltd regret that an article published on 5th February 2015 on RenewEconomy.com.au implies that Goldwind Australia is the owner of Gullen Range Wind Farm. This is inaccurate and we wish to clarify that Beijing Jingneng Clean Energy Co., Ltd. is the majority owner of Gullen Range Wind Farm.
